      Pistol Poem

This audio art piece was commissioned by the BBC and created in 1960 by Brion Gysin, an inveterate innovator, frequent William Burroughs collaborator, and inventor of the “Cut-Up” technique. Shots from a gun were recorded at different distances and then spliced together with a number sequence using the “permutation” principle Gysin also invented. Many listeners, most famously the recording engineer for the BBC, experience feelings of dread and evil and the urge to flee while listening. Your mileage may vary.
